This exciting photography adventure takes us into the heart of Texas in pursuit of some of the most remarkable predatory insects in North America, including both the smallest and largest robber flies found in the United States. One of our most sought-after subjects will be the impressive Giant Prairie Robber Fly (Microstylum morosum), an extraordinary predator that provides incredible opportunities for dramatic close-up photography. The smallest robber fly in the United States, the We will also search for colorful dragonflies, damselflies, and a wonderful assortment of other insects in the diverse habitats of Central Texas. From the lush environments of Palmetto State Park to the varied ecosystems around Lockhart, Luling, and Austin, we will explore habitats that offer outstanding opportunities to discover and photograph the often-overlooked wonders of the natural world.
