Lee and Ramon have created a workshop to help you master macro photography!
This workshop will primarily teach you macro photography with macro and telephoto lenses, flash, supplemental lighting, and natural light.
Lee has served as an OM System Ambassador since April 2019! Ramon is a professional biologist and photographer who has explored many areas of Brazil!
Program a custom mode or modes for macro so that you quickly access the important settings for Autofocus, exposure, using flash, computational features like focus stacking or focus bracketing, and so much more!
This workshop includes a group pre-workshop zoom meeting to help you prepare for the trip by discussing clothing, camera gear, accessories, travel suggestions, and more. It also includes a post workshop group zoom meeting for an image critique discussion for those who opt to share images for critique. Both sessions will be recorded and provided for repeated viewing.
The state of Bahia offers some of the last remaining Atlantic rainforest habitat in Brazil! The macro photographer will discover some very rare and rarely photographed species!

Air Travel
Air access to Ilhéus (IOS – Jorge Amado Airport) is available through domestic flights connecting the city to several major Brazilian capitals. There are no direct international flights, so travelers coming from abroad must first arrive at a major Brazilian airport and then connect to Ilhéus.Currently, it is possible to reach Ilhéus directly from key airports. SSA (Salvador) offers the most frequent route, with daily flights averaging 1 hour. There are also direct flights from GRU (São Paulo – Guarulhos), with an average flight time of 2 hours and 15 minutes, and from CNF (Belo Horizonte – Confins), which takes approximately 2 hours. These routes provide convenience and accessibility, allowing travelers to reach the southern coast of Bahia with minimal connections. For those departing from other Brazilian airports or arriving from abroad, the most common option is to fly into one of the main hubs — such as GRU, SSA, or CNF — and then board a domestic flight directly to IOS. This ensures a straightforward travel chain with flexible itineraries tailored to different travel needs. Thus, while IOS serves primarily domestic flights, the available routes make Ilhéus easily accessible and a comfortable entry point to explore the natural and cultural richness of southern Bahia.
