One of my photography mentors was Greg Lasley who passed away a few years back. It was his images of dragonflies, damselflies and robber flies that peaked my interest. Living in Austin, Texas at the time, I had regular access to several locations that provide outstanding macro opportunities right in urban areas. Greg taught me on-camera flash techniques for these subjects.

If you use OM System cameras and would like to jump into the world of macro photography, I have developed a workshop to introduce you to this exciting and limitless world! The Introduction to Macro Photography Workshop will be in October 2026 in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas! This is a peak time of year for macro subjects and the weather is much more pleasant in October! This trip has already made and I still have several spots available! Bring your macro, super telephoto, or medium telephoto lenses to learn macro photography! We will learn all about using flash and natural light, how to find and approach subjects, when to use a tripod and when to not use a tripod, and post processing your macro images!
